March 31 is International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), a day to celebrate trans lives while also recognizing the ongoing challenges, discrimination, and inequality many still face. Communities across Michigan are coming together all week long to honor and uplift trans voices.

Here’s our roundup of Transgender Day of Visibility events and actions in Michigan:

Sunday (March 29)

Community event: Transgender Day of Visibility Celebration, (Adrian, 2 p.m.)
A gathering for visibility, connection, and support. The program will include a presentation on transgender and gender-diverse experiences in history, local LGBTQ resources, and a collaborative art initiative activity.

Protest For Progress: Trans Day of Visibility, (Grand Rapids, 3 p.m.)
A celebration of trans lives with music, speakers, poetry, and a protest.

Monday (March 30)

Macomb County Pride: Transgender Day of Awareness Community Panel, (Mount Clemens, 6 pm.)
A community event centered on connection, learning, and celebrating trans voices. The program will include a panel of local trans and non-binary speakers and a guided question-and-answer session.

Tuesday (March 31) International Transgender Day of Visibility

Salus Center: Trans Day of Visibility Clothing Swap, (Lansing, 5 p.m.)
Learn about local resources, pick out a new outfit from the clothing swap, and enjoy a cookie from Honey Bun Bakery.

Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action, Integration, Immigrant Rights and Fight for Equality By Any Means Necessary (BAMN): Rally, Speakout & March, (Detroit, 5 p.m.)
A rally to speak out and march to defend trans rights.

Out On The Lakeshore: Transgender Day of Visibility Celebration, (Holland, 6 p.m.)
An open house-style tea party with food, beverages, speakers, and open mic time.

Blue Water Allies: Transgender Day of Visibility Open Mic Night, (Port Huron, 6 p.m.)
An evening dedicated to uplifting trans voices and stories. Attend to hear and support performers or share poetry, music, personal experiences, comedy, or remarks.

Ann Arbor District Library: Trans Day of Visibility Interview with Bakpak Durden, (Ann Arbor, 6:30 p.m.)
An interview with Bakpak Durden, a Detroit-based artist whose work blends the narrative and visual traditions of Baroque and Afro-Surrealism. Through oil paintings and large-scale murals, Durden portrays subjects in moments of transition, with a strong focus on fostering connections within surrounding communities. The library will also be providing a live stream of this event.

Friday (April 3)

OutFront Kalamazoo: Trans Day of Visibility Concert, (Kalamazoo, 7 p.m.)
Enjoy a line-up of local trans+ musicians.
